First Rides and Foundation Training

Training young horses and starting them under saddle, naturally, using Parelli , offers your horse and you the best possible beginning--a foundation on which to build a partnership for life. In Pat's system, we teach the horse to accept the human first as a friend and then leader, to accept the cinch and saddle, and to accept the rider as passenger and then director/guide, all the while using Parelli savvy and tools. In addition, we help the horse to accept  calmly and willingly many of the challenges inherent in living safely in the human world. When we take the time it takes to develop confidence in our horses, experiences such as standing tied, trimming and farrier work, receiving vaccinations, paste de-worming, and trailer loading, to name a few, become easy and safe.

Whether you have a yearling who needs to learn ground manners (the 7 Games), a two or three year old you'd like to begin riding, or an older horse that needs a re-start, training by a Parelli Horse Development  Specialist is an investment in your horse's future--as well as in your own!

Not all licensed Parelli Professionals or instructors are also licensed by Pat Parelli as Horse Development Specialists. Nita Jo is the only one in Minnesota and one of three in the upper mid-west. She attended her first "colt starting" course with Pat Parelli in 2000 and another in 2001, both at the Parelli Center in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Subsequently, she participated in still another colt starting course at the Florida Center in 2006.

The study of developing young horses--from birth to foundation training--could engage someone for a lifetime! And there are renowned horseman in the world who have done just that.  Pat Parelli's expertise is in foundation training and he has passed on to his horse development professionals some of this age-old savvy. As is often said, when starting a young horse, do what you do as if he'd done it a thousand times, never forgetting it's the first time. We only get one time to make a first impression on a young horse. And, we never know if we're starting on the finish or finishing the start. It's all about Level 1--done with excellence and savvy.

Whether you have a young horse or mature adult, would like training in preparation for first rides, a re-start, or a fresh start for your horse, contact Nita Jo for scheduling and further information.
