Long Distance Video Coaching & Assessment

You live hundreds of miles from the nearest instructor or clinic yet you want to continue your PNH progress. Perhaps your trailer is stuck in a snowdrift and you're stuck on a task, technique or concept. What then?

Send Nita Jo a DVD of your L1 or L2 assessment tasks and she'll view it, make comments and give you the results and feedback. (Nita Jo can give you coaching on L3, though not an assessment of that level.)

Or, send her a DVD of something you and your horse are having difficulty with and she'll give you some feedback and coaching via email, telephone or letter.

Her mailing address is on the Contact page of this web site.

How does it work?

  1. Download the appropriate blank level Task form and task criteria here. Print out the tasks. You will need to have the blank task form available for the Instructor whether you are assessing live, or via DVD. Read the assessment criteria so that you will know what the Instructor will be looking for when you perform your task(s) for assessment.
  2. Have someone video you and your horse; Transfer to DVD if you've video'd in VHS format (***NOTE** DVD format is *fast-tracked* by Nita Jo as she can take DVDs with her on the road to view.  VHS format will be turned around much more slowly as she only can watch VHS tapes while she is at home, which is sometimes infrequent).
  3. Send the DVD to Nita Jo. Put your name, address, phone number and email address ON THE DVD disk as well as on THE BLANK TASK SHEET, and please include a short note explaining whether you are looking for coaching or assessment.  Please send via regular mail, NOT Registered or any other method that would require a signature.
  4. Please provide a blank task form with the DVD you submit (For Level 2, not the criteria, just the blank task sheet. Level 1 has just one option, so just send that in, please). You can download the appropriate level assessment forms here. Just click on the link of the level tasks you need, and it will download to your computer. Print it out and send it along with your video.  There will be an extra $5 charge if the blank TASK assessment form is not provided with the DVD. The filled-in task assessment form will be returned to you with comments after Nita Jo views your DVD. Please continue to use/send that same task assessment form each time you submit more DVD'd tasks or resubmits.
  5. Include a check for $100 made out to:  Natural Horse Savvy, LLC
  6. Nita Jo will return the task assessment form to you. It will be filled out with comments, and you will be able to see what you have passed, and what you might need to resubmit. If you want the actual DVD returned to you, be sure to include that request in your note. DVDs will NOT be returned unless requested. Please provide a self-addressed, stamped mailer if you wish return of your DVD.

****** Make a copy of the original assessment form (as well as the DVD) each time you send them in. (for safekeeping in case your video/form are lost in transit.) *******

Please Note:

If you are sending in a DVD...PLEASE make sure it has been *finalized* before sending.

Also, please watch your DVD prior to sending so that you know it can be viewed!

How long will it take?

Usually, Nita Jo views DVDs on a first-come, first-served basis; how long it will take for you to receive feedback depends on how many other DVDs she has waiting in line, and on her teaching schedule. Plan on 2-4 weeks; be flexible! Other instructors also view videos; please don't hesitate to work with them if Nita Jo's schedule doesn't fit yours. If you must send a VHS tape, please note that the turnaround time on VHS tapes will be longer than with DVDs. Nita Jo can take DVDs on the road with her, while she cannot with VHS tapes, and thus can only watch VHS when she is at home (rare!).

What does it cost?

Cost for DVD coaching or assessing is $100/hour of NJ's time (not the DVD run time) for the first hour. 30 minutes of DVD equals about 60 minutes of assessed/coached time.  Most (not all!) Level 1 assessments will cost no more than one hour. If you're submitting an entire L2 assessment, please expect there to be an additional charge; most L2 assessments take about 1 1/2 hours.  Please include a check for $100 when you initially submit your assessment.
