Getting Going: Let’s Go—and Whoa!
Level 2/Level 2 Advancing:
Enjoy five days dedicated to just you and your horse. There's no greater way to improve and accelerate your horsemanship than by dedicating a block of quality time to focus on improving your connection, communication, and leadership skills with your horse.
In this course you will learn how to earn the true respect and impulsion central to Level 2 and beyond. Both online and under saddle, you’ll achieve greater responsiveness and relaxation in yourself and your horse as you learn to play and ride more confidently with patterns and obstacles. You'll learn how to be more effective, how to teach your horse his responsibilities, and get help as you practice yours. These are the things that make riding such a pleasure! You’ll get practice with rein positions, go and whoa, transitions, and basic impulsion patterns. Get started with Carrot Stick riding, and soon you’ll be riding bridleless. This is where the real fun begins! Problems you were having before will "melt" away as you learn to read your horse’s horsenality and to be a puzzle-solver. Trailer-loading will be de-mystified!
The clinic format comprises presentations, simulations, demonstrations, practice, and coaching. This 5-day course involves Online play and lots of Freestyle riding, and is limited to 10 participants. The clinic begins at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday with introductions over a picnic lunch (provided at not charge to all participants) and will go that first day until approximately 6:30 p.m. Class will begin Thursday-Sunday at 9:00 a.m., ending around 5:00 p.m. with a lunch break of an hour or so each day.
Pre-requisites: Official pass of L1 (or instructor approval), plus successful self-assessment of all L1 FS riding, along with Friendly Game tasks in L2 Freestyle riding self-assessment (see Savvy Club website for self-assessment tasks.) Please be very familiar with the L2 DVDs and L2 Patterns.
**Notice—some people qualify for both the L1A/L2 and the L2/L2A clinic. In those cases, your level of confidence should determine which clinic you sign up for. If you tend to be an unconfident rider, then you would benefit from taking the L1A/L2 “Let’s Ride” clinic before taking the L2/L2A. Students who are confident riders, who can walk, trot, and canter—on purpose!—as well as meet the other requirements would be best served in the more advanced course.
Parelli equipment expected for this level: Horseman’s halter, 12’line, 22’ line, carrot stick and savvy string, natural hackamore and/or snaffle bridle with rein leathers and horseman’s reins. Bring your own saddle & pad/blanket (These do not have to be Parelli brand).
Which horse to bring: Bring a horse you can ride at a walk and trot (on purpose!) and have ridden within the past two weeks. Please, bring a horse you can already ride, whether with the rope hackamore or bridle; do not bring a horse you want to learn to ride. Bring the horse with which you feel most safe and confident. You can transfer what you learn to more challenging horses later. Your horse is your teacher, and learning from a “Steady Eddy” (your easiest horse) is what Pat and Linda Parelli recommend.
No stallions allowed at any clinics! A stallion is an intact male two years older and up, whether used for breeding or not.
