Getting Started: Let’s Connect!

Level 1

Learn the secrets of safety and success with your horse as you learn the language of horses!

Horses communicate to establish bonding, trust, and leadership by moving each other around, through body language. The 7 Games is the name Pat Parelli has given to this language. You will discover the secrets of success with your horse as you learn the 7 Games he plays naturally. This two-day clinic will teach you the beginning savvy and skills necessary to stay safe and start solving common problems such as crowding, biting, shying, and kicking.

On the first day, you will learn how to understand your horse from his view point, and how to play the first 3 games, which make it possible for you to communicate with him and therefore gain his trust and respect. On the second day you’ll gain even more of a connection as you put what you’ve learned to a purpose in games 4 through 7. You and your horse will both become better partners. Your horse will become calmer, smarter, and braver as the bond between you strengthens.

The clinic format comprises presentations, simulations, demonstrations, practice, and coaching. This clinic involves no riding, and is limited to 8 participants. This clinic begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes until approximately 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch.

PrerequisitesPrior knowledge of the “Getting Started” and Level 1 DVDs is highly recommended.

Parelli equipment expected for this level:  Horseman’s halter, 12’ line, carrot stick, and savvy string. A few sets are available to lend on a first-come, first-serve basis so you can experience the benefits of the right tools before you purchase your own.

Which horse to bring:  If you have a choice, bring the horse you find easiest to get along with, one with no extreme vices. Your horse is your teacher, and learning from a “Steady Eddy” (your easiest horse) is what Pat and Linda Parelli recommend. The horse you bring to this clinic may be a horse you do not ride. For example, a miniature horse, a young or otherwise un-started horse.

No stallions allowed at any clinics! A stallion is an intact male two years or older, whether used for breeding or not.
